Firefighters were called to Bishop Hall Lane in Chelmsford

Power has finally been restored to all of Chelmsford following an explosion and fire at an electricity sub-station.

John Higgins, an electricity worker, died in the blast at Bishop Hall Lane on Wednesday. He worked for EDF Energy and was to retire in six months' time.

Mr Higgins, 59, died from burns and breathing in toxic gases.

The explosion had left thousands of people without power and led to nearby homes and businesses being evacuated as a precautionary measure.
