A truck has been seized by police investigating an incident in which debris crashed through a car windscreen on a main road in Essex.

It happened as the driver, aged 47 and from Colchester, was on the A12 near Marks Tey. He is in a critical condition in hospital.

The piece of metal is believed to have been lying on the road.

A forensic examination of the Ford transit truck is being carried out but it is not known if it was involved.

Police want to hear from the drivers of a white minibus and white mini who swerved to avoid the debris in the incident which took place on Saturday.
